Dear family and friends,
Thank you so much for the different amuzing and inspiring emails and notifications which you all send pretty regularly!!

I am now in Riga, Latvia for a training on young women and the hiv/aids pandemic, within the framework of my academic interest and specilazation " gendered violence and the sexual and reproductive health, rights and needs of migrant/refugee women" . This event is a 10 day extensive training whereby 35 young men and women get a grounded insight and analyzes of the global situation of the pandemic. We have had well-known human rights
activists as guest speakers as well as young Latvian women who gave us a detailed introduction and sketch in the local situation.

Today we visited a hiv/aids house where people living with hiv/aids (plwha) are treated. It made a huge impact on me and i am still honestly quite disdained from it. I am now sitting in an internet cafe. As i jot down my thoughts in this email using the keyboard it seems all heads here are turned in my direction; obviously i am the only browny the people here have seen......hahahaha especially children, it is funny.

Well, anyway eastern Europe has a lot in common with Africa. Gendered violence occurs here too in a very frequent but more hidden way. Here there is alot of women traffiking and forced prostitution. Some of the
women we met got the virus through rape and/or working as a sex worker. It is heartbreaking to see this, all of this injustices. It really moved me to see how it is like to live and wake up everyday
knowing that you are going to die. Many of the girls we met said that they will die more from the worrying thought alone than from the actual disease. What a way to live. I count my blessings.

I have also learned alot about the movement and behaviour of the HIV virus. At my age (almsot 25) i still didnt know much about it. Yesterday we had a interactive and visual presentation on this topic and i am so
glad i did.

I am now very hot, the cafe is very busy, and it is above 25 degrees here. I am going to get me a cold drink. I will go and look for a shop somewhere.

I am enjoying all the stares.......
it is good knowing you are the only
brown sugar here...
hahaha
see you all soon..
hope you are all well
sahro

PS; will send pictures when i come back....(sunday the 14th)

    Hi Sahro! am now
    in Mwanza with Josine.
The topic and the situation in Latvia has moved me so much that it of great importance for us to share what so far we have at hand about this deadly disease of our times to the worlwide.
We're obliged to make use of whatever platform at our disposal to stop all associated injustices sorrounding hiv/aids as u've seen out there with more prevalent in our African communities. Moreover women empowerment should be highly intergrated as we share the information on the disease.I believe one day after the other and litle by litle as we do so gonna make a difference in socities with such marginalised group of people and beyond.
Yes Sahro,it is so marvelous getting to hear about the use of your career touching those in pieces/marginalised ones so that peace can prevail in their midist, keep it up.
    Welcome in Mwanza-Tanzania
